Sizing

We know that one of the major concerns about buying a dress online is whether the dress will fit right. We have done everything in our power to help make the sizing of our dresses a science rather than art. In that regard, we have decided to do away completely with traditional sizing charts – although we still use the traditional sizing number system (e.g., 2, 4, 6, etc.) in a drop-down menu bar for selecting a dress size.

As we wrote in our blog some time ago, the traditional sizing system was created and used by retailers to help generalize different sized pieces of apparel supplied by different manufacturers. Our feeling is that since we sell only our own dresses, there's no need to generalize anything. Rather, we prefer to provide you with our actual dress specifications so you know exactly how the dress will fit. Our dresses are made to come within ¼" tolerance of our specifications. You can find our dress specifications in the information box below our dress images (as shown below).

In selecting the correct dress size, you should use the following instructions when taking your own measurements:

  1. First, please make sure you have a tape measure. If you do not, then please click here to download a printed tape-measure. Just grab a little tape and scissors and you'll be ready to go!
  2. When you take your measurements, you should only be wearing undergarments.
  3. To measure your chest, place the tape-measure around your chest and back at its widest point. Don't pull on the tape-measure but make sure both ends of the tape-measure meet after forming an even circle around your chest and back. If possible, try to have the tape-measure follow along your bra strap since this will help you achieve a level measurement.
  4. To measure your waist, form an even circle around the smallest part of your waist. Again, don't pull the tape-measure too taut.
  5. Finally, to measure you hips, you should be standing in a natural position with your feet approximately one foot apart from each other. As with the waist measurement, you should form an even circle with the tape-measure but, this time, do it at the widest portion of your hips. Also, please note that your hip measurement should be smaller than that provided in our specifications, particularly in regards to out A-Line and Ballroom skirts which do bellow out.

We strongly suggest that you order a dress in a size that relates to the biggest measurement you have and that if the measurement falls in between two specifications that you select the larger size.

If you need any help at all with measuring or selecting the right size dress then please contact us by phone (1-866-599-2626) or email (customerservice@cocomyles.com) and we'll be happy to help you.
